Be Their Voices: Advocating for Change Behind Bars

Supporting Inmates and Families in Minnesota Jails Facing Neglect, Denial of Medical Attention, or Abuse

Inmates should be allowed to go in and pay their debt to society and leave unharmed

Their CONSITUTIONAL RIGHTS SHOULD BE PROTECTED under the law. If law enforecement personnel falls short of upholding their constitutional rights, they must be held accountable.

YOU CAN PREVENT NEGLECT OR MALTREATMENT IN MN JAILS.

We help inmates stay connected to their community and loved ones. When tragedy or mistreatment happens, we help families and communities heal while keeping those in authority accountable to local, state and federal, especially the Hardel Sherrell Act.

Inmate Advocacy Program

Inmate Advocacy Program

We help inmates or their families alleviate neglect, denial of medical care, retaliation, or abuse in MN jails. Inmates and their families can apply for the program, which includes educational materials, connection with a BTV advocate, or referral to other services, including medical and legal resources.

Inmate Advocacy Program

The Healing Place

Communities are encouraged to meet and mourn together. Healing circles bring families and communities of inmates together who have experienced tragedies in MN jails, trauma linked to interactions with law enforecement, or racial animosity.

Inmate Advocacy Program

Inmate Connection Kits

The Inmate Connection Kits will introduce the Hardel Sherrell Act and the Hardel Release of Information form to inmates, families, and correctional staff to ensure families, loved ones, or Be Their Voices can connect with their loved ones even when they are incapacitated.

AN IMPORTANT LAW THAT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE

For inmates who want their loved one’s to be notified in case of a medical emergency under the Hardel Sherrell Act. During your intake  process ask to sign the Authorization of Disclosure and Data Practices Rights Advisory form. This is a release of information form and it’s for your protection! The jailers don’t call it the Hardel Sherrell Act. However it is and it’s a part of the law that may help save your life!
